Ventures in Baking

Good and yummy things just keep coming from my oven!  I’m in love with my new Kitchenaid mixer!  I hope it lasts.  Of course I don’t know how my Ralph Lauren jeans may feel about this.  I have a feeling they won’t be so happy before long.

So far I’ve made several loaves of white bread and some Italian style bread some of which was super yummy with a bowl of chili tonight. I have blessed my husband with two styles of cinnamon bread both from The Pioneer Woman.  One was a swirl bread and the other was a pull apart style drenched in icing. Both were scrumptious!
The other night I dabbled in oatmeal raisin cookies and I found a recipe for a fabulous chocolate cake which I’ve already made two of! One didn’t count because it went to Thanksgiving dinner. Tonights foray is a yellow cake with chocolate icing.
I don’t think I can go on like this much longer but I will sure try.  There are just too many delicious things to make and I sure do love to eat.  It’s the season for that you know.
My favorite thing in the world is good super rich cheese cake.  I just don’t know about that one though.  It’s dangerous ground. I have not yet started to look for a recipe I dare not until my skills are a bit sharper.  I’ve had a few cheesecake disasters in my past. OH but to be able to whip up a perfect version anytime would be wonderful!  Or it could be Pandora’s Box.  

Cleaning Queen for a Day

Every once in awhile the mood strikes and it’s one of those things that you can’t really let it pass you by.  It’s a seize the day kind of thing.  Carpe Diem!!  What is this ‘Go for the Gold’ most wonderful experience might you ask???  Housecleaning.

Oh yes, I can hear you sigh in disappointment.  Me too.  That is exactly why I have to strike while the iron is hot.  It’s a running joke that I clean the house, a good cleaning, about once a month.  If it happens to be early in the month when I’m cleaning up a storm I’ll laugh and say “better get it over with, then I’m good till next month.”

Though the truth is that with just me and the hubby I really don’t have to clean much more than the normal tidy up very often.  Today is a wash all the cat beds and vacuum the cat trees and tear apart the couch kind of cleaning day.  I need to take down the curtains to wash but I am just not feeling that adventurous.

The cats absolutely hate it when I wash their beds.  First of all they disappear for an hour or so and the cats all wonder around  in a daze because the designated napping spots have been abducted.  Then when the beds reappear they smell clean which is a total turn of to the kitties.  They like them again in a few days when they are a little less fresh.  For animals that are supposed to be so clean – they sure love their stinky old beds.

Later today is baking for tomorrow.  I’m lucky enough to be going somewhere for Thanksgiving rather than have people to my house.  I’m taking a chocolate cake that I’ve recently discovered I’m not to terrible at making.  I got a brand new Kitchenaid mixer the other night.  I’ve been baking up a storm!  I may even try a cookie recipe – we’ll see.  Keep your eyes peeled for the baking to go on the F-it List – it usually doesn’t take a new hobby to end up there.


Inspiration From a Friend

I have a friend in the sense that many of us have friends these days.  I chat with her, we have many common interests, we make each other laugh.  However we have never met.  A Facebook friend.  I can truly say that I have several of these “friends” these days – I belong to groups and have met great people.

It sort of makes you question what  IS a friend in the modern age.  Thirty years ago it was the person who lived next door or down the road just a bit.  Then maybe a friend was across town or a co-worker.  Now, it’s not uncommon to chat it up with people in another state or even a different country on a daily basis.  I don’t believe I know someone that I physically see every week any better than someone I chat with over the internet a few days a week.

In any case one of these modern age friends has inspired me to be better about my so-called blog.  She writes one all the time – basically every day.  Just a short clip of the days events and sometimes photos included.  It really serves as a public journal.  It’s great and pretty interesting.  I’d like to keep up with mine better.  I’m sure I won’t *sigh* but I’d like to.

On another note – I made an epic chocolate cake today.  I’ve been baking lately.  Not sure what that’s about.   I was washing some of the greasy icing dishes and a thought went through my head.  As gross as that dish was,  it was just sugar and butter and with  bit of soap and hot water and it was no problem.  So here is why science fails me.  I just can’t get over WHY I can’t eat that sugar and fat and then have it melt away next time I get in the shower.  What does our body do to it to take it permanent hostage?  Mind boggling.
