Friday!! It’s been a lazy day to end my lazy week. It’s been a Ho-Hum sort of week and I’m okay with that once in awhile. I don’t really have much planned for next week either!
The hubbs and I did go out for a (hot and sweaty) nice bike ride. Once again, can’t wait til it’s cooler out! But the traffic is really light in the afternoons so that’s why we ride mid-day.
I’ve broken my rule not to request anymore new books until after I got through the ones I have still to read. I knew I wouldn’t make it!
It’s a quiet day and I’m glad for that…the kitties were all up in a ruckus last night. Grace is supervising my computer time. She would like to color I think 😉 She enjoys sitting on the book and smelling the pencils.
Maybe a trip to Whole Foods over the weekend. I get into trouble there if I’m not supervised…too many good things!
Enjoy your weekend!
Yesterday afternoon the hubbs and I decided to take a last minute trip down to the Outer Banks to have dinner with my family on vacation down there. We only live about an hour and a half away and it’s not a bad drive.
Everyone was surprised to see us! We played Bingo, and my grandma won! She was very happy and it’s always fun when someone in your group wins.
Today is (still) hot! It’s so hot and humid that my garage is muggy and unpleasant to be in which means I don’t foresee me finishing that laundry from yesterday…well at least not until tonight anyway. The weather men can’t decide if we are supposed to have any storms/rain. All week they’ve been saying severe storms today…then this morning they decided nope, not anymore. With all the large clouds looming I’m not sure they are right….are they ever?
We have seen Avery the ninja kitty several times over the past few days. I’m not sure if he’s out and about more or if we are getting better at knowing what time of day to look for him. I suppose in the next few weeks we’ll have to make a decision about trapping him/her for neuter/spay surgery and getting a more permanent residence for him in the back yard.
Not sure if I’m picking a new book today or just taking a break….
I know it’s only the end of July but I’m sort of over this summer. I’m ready for fall and cooler weather! I’m ready to be done with the terrible, terrible garden this year. Everything is dying and I’m mad and sad about it. I think next year I’m taking a break from it. I may spread some wild flower seeds and call it a day. This pitiful season has sucked all the green thumb ambition right out of me.
We are forecast to have yet another week (or more) in the low 90’s! I always think I could never live up north where it gets cold and snowy but this time of year always wish I lived where it wasn’t so damn not for so long! It will be this way through September and I’m grouchy about it.
The kitties are their sleepy little selves. They don’t mind the heat really. It’s 90 out and Lexie is on her heating pad and under a blanket! Makari, on the other hand, plants himself right in front of the fan and lounges on the cool floor.
Last night I stayed up waaay to late to finish my book! Iv’e been a big reader as far back as I can remember and I always liked to stay up and read.
At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen was really good. Sometimes you read a book and you can’t really place why you like it. This was just really well written and a good story. Check out the full review on Goodreads.
Off to start some laundry! Stay Cool!
This weekend was nice and slow. Friday was bike rides and Costco shopping and Saturday felt like Sunday all day so it was almost like a long weekend.
The family is on vacation in OBX this week, so it will be a quiet and slow week – never a bad thing. The hubbs and I haven’t been down for several years but sometimes we enjoy “stay-cation” at home. This year he’s not off from work so it’s a normal week for us.
I’ve been searching through NetGalley and GoodReads for upcoming books and it’s a mixed feeling when all the holiday season books are out for early review. It’s July and already with the holidays…my local craft beer store even has fall seasonal beer out already. I am having a hard time with this.
Yesterday I almost died from sneezing! Well not really but I had some kind of bizarre allergy attack and for hours and hours I just sneezed! A Benedryl coma is not the best way to spend the day in but at least the sneezing has stopped this morning.
Avery was back yesterday. He’s like a little ninja! I hardly ever see him and I only assume he’s getting the food I put out. I do know that he’s not eating all of it and some sort of critter has discovered the buffet. I’ll have to find a less expensive way to feed him if the wildlife is going to eat it too. I also won’t fill up his bowl but I’ll have to put a bit in every evening for him. I’m hoping eventually he won’t bolt as soon as he sees me.
Off to put a dent in my book, and maybe some coloring this afternoon!
Today is a day of chores and grocery shopping. Not fun, but necessary. Thursdays are my favorite day of the week for half of the year. Thursdays is Grey’s Anatomy. Over the summer it’s just another day waiting for September.
We have not seen Avery in a few days but I caught someone snacking on his food. Criag is my neighbors cat that wanders over. He’s not one to miss a snack. I won’t bother to get on my soapbox about free roaming cats and their negligent and stupid parents.
The sassy cats are all having a quiet day…well all but Simon. Simon never has a quiet day. Lexie is doing what she does best, lounging and being cute. She’s supervising my computer activities.
Off to work on today’s to-do.
Fortunately, the hot weather seems to have given way a bit. It’s breezy and a chilly 83 outside. I hope this lasts awhile as I’m over the high 90’s this summer. I can’t wait for the cooler temps and crisp air of fall. I’m hoping to talk the hubbs into a quick getaway in October maybe to D.C. or Charleston.
Today I canned up two jars of jalapeno peppers. I’m sure I’ll have a few more before the summer is over. Too bad I won’t be putting up any tomatoes, but it’s time to get over that I suppose.
Decided on this one as the next read. I loved her book Water for Elephants so I have high hopes for it.
Just a lazy sort of whatever day today, not much going on and waiting for the upcoming weekend.
The garden this year has been pretty sad. It’s hard to see months of care and hard work wither and die. We have had quite a bit of above normal temps and rain, rain, rain. This past Saturday alone we got three inches in just as many hours. All the tomatoes that were ripening have cracked and rotted on the vine.
I’m not alone – I have many online garden “friends” that are all suffering backyard gardening woes. Tomorrow will be a painful day of pulling plants and calling it quits on much of it. We live to play another day I suppose. There is always next year to plan and look forward to.
The hot peppers are doing pretty well despite all the poor weather. I have a good load of jalapenos to cut and pickle tomorrow and some cayenne peppers to dry and make pepper flakes from. I’ll take what I can get.
I need to select a new book to start! I have whittled down my To Read pile and only have a few left. I’ve forbid myself from requesting anything new until I’ve gotten through what is still hanging around. I’m hoping the second part of the week will be a bit cooler. Is it possible for it to be too hot to read? Yes! I like to sit out and read in my Adirondack chair in the quiet sunshine, but when it’s 100 outside plus a heat index it’s just too much.
The kitties are doing what they do best. Napping! Lexie thinks it’s too hot to get out of bed. Simon has been in a funk which has everyone else in one.
Hoping tomorrow is a better day
