Last night the hubs and I visited a traveling exhibit at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. It’s called Lantern Asia and it was really cool. It was a beautiful night to go walk the gardens and see the lighted structures. We both had a really great time, I love doing stuff like this.
It really was beautiful!
Otherwise, it’s been a slow start to the week. Simon and I spent a little time enjoying the back yard. I started a new book, Lily and the Octopus. Not much going on this week but the hubs is on vacation next week so hopefully we’ll plan something fun!
Have a fun afternoon!
I finished my 20th book of the year last night! A nerdy celebration but bookworms will appreciate this.
The Little Pairs Bookshop was an enjoyable and easy read. It was a lazy summer day kind of book.
My goal of 50 is looking attainable this year!
This past week I got some lovely book mail from my friend at the paper! I’m all set for spring reading! I hope I can get through them all – I also have a digital stack of lovelies awaiting me on the kindle. I can’t wait to read these!
Today is a wonderful spring day! The windows are all open and the sassy cats are in heaven. They make me nervous all sprawled out in the open windows but they love it.
I also have our ceiling fans on! This is quite the victory. When we first moved into this house Simon was terrified of the ceiling fans! He didn’t even like them when they were off! We are slowly making some progress and they can be on the low setting now.
Hoping you are enjoying your Monday!
It’s time for Easter Baskets full of chocolate and colored eggs. This is me as the bunny! Many years ago I worked for a photography studio that had a contract to do all the typical holiday photos at the mall. We were short on people to don the E.B. suit so I took a few rotations. The costume was hot but wearing the big floppy suit was fun.
This week was a busy one for me! A few Doctors appointments and lots of errand running around. I feel like I’ve been on the go a lot but very little has been done. I had to get some allergy testing done. This is never a fun thing. I was stuck 23 times and hung out at the Dr. Office for 4 hours. What a day.
I’m hoping for an uneventful weekend! Simon and I took a short walk in the stroller this afternoon. He was a bit cranky today but a lunch of tuna seems to have made him happy.
In book news, two new goodies came in the mail this week courtesy of publishers/authors. I’m already halfway through The Little Paris Bookshop. I like it so far. It published this past Tuesday so it’s available to pick up right now. Fragile Brilliance looks promising but has been added to the TBR pile for another time.
I’m expecting some more books in sometime next week! So much for that time-out and no more books for a bit! Good thing summer is just around the corner! I read a lot in the summer as a way to enjoy the weather.
Hope you have a great holiday weekend!
Today we are part of the blog tour for a great book! The Lost and Found Life of Rosy Bennett by Jan Birley. I’m very excited to help promote this book and Jan because I really enjoyed this book so much.
The Lost and Found Life of Rosy Bennet is Jan’s debut novel and it’s so polished and well written that I expect great things from her in the future. It’s hard to believe this is her first published work.
You can find out more about Jan on her author website or find her on Face Book
I admit I’m jaded and this kind of book isn’t normally what I pick up to read. But when I was asked if I was interested in reviewing it, I sort of had a Shonda Rimes moment and said Yes! I’m glad I did. Jan proves that women’s fiction can be well written with good characters that have depth. It’s not all hunky dudes and women that need saving.
Rosy certainly has her dilemmas and yes, she does have a romantic interest, but what’s great about Rosy is that she’s got it all covered. She’s picking herself up and dusting herself off and getting on with life after tragedy hits home. She’s real.
I hope each of my readers will grab this book – even if it’s not something you would normally read. It’s worth it.

Over the weekend I stopped into our local tea shop. So posh! It is the nicest little store with very helpful people that run it. That makes all the difference! I love small local shops where the people are so pleasant. A rarity these days.
Images are from the Quintin’s website.
They have walls and walls of tea! And canisters of each one that you can pluck off the shelves and smell. They will brew anything for you to try! It’s tea- heaven.
It’s been rainy and dreary which is great for both tea drinking and reading! I started a new book – yeah me – so far it’s good!
So far it’s about a woman’s husband who disappeared five years ago and has legally been declared dead. She was tried for his murder but not convicted. The charges were dropped? There is sort of a lingering question that maybe she DID have something to do with it…it’s suspicious. His mother, Daisy, is kind of an evil thing. Maybe she did her son in because she THOUGHT she was the beneficiary of his life insurance. Turns out she was wrong about that one.
I was put off from initially requesting this title because, like SOOO MANY, it’s billed as ‘the next’ Gone Girl. That’s such a put off and publishers should stop making this comparison. Gone Girl was fantastic…but every third book on the shelf is now stacking itself up to it and it’s just a mess. Most don’t deliver the goods. So far this one is good…but let’s face it…there will never be another Gone Girl.
It publishes tomorrow so you can check it out for yourself right away.
Hope you have a “tea-riffic” afternoon!!
It’s Friday! Yeah for those of you who have a weekend to look forward to! Sadly, when you work from home or you are a home maker Friday’s are just not the same. Though I try to get as much stuff done as I can so that I do have two days without piles of laundry and dishes to do.
At some point in my future I see a day of deep scrubbing. A Spring Cleaning day. Today is not that day. I’m going to have to prepare for that mentally.
Today is more one of those walk around and knock the dust off the tops of things and vacuum up the cat fur tumbleweeds.
Except for bathrooms. I hate cleaning bathrooms. Those require effort.
The sassy cats are all napping in windows today. It’s a quiet and peaceful day. Except for Simon – he’s up and chatting up a storm. I opened a can of tuna for him hoping that if his mouth was full then he’d be quiet. I think this is similar to giving candy to a screaming kid. Not that you really intend to reward bad behavior, but as long as the noise stops you are willing to do anything.
Yes. I try and bribe the cat to be quiet. No judgement.
Hopefully this weekend brings books – and reviews! I have a few to get finished so you can select something wonderful to read!
The hubs helped me make a few changes around here in the bloggosphere. Some more may be coming. Nothing too drastic, but hopefully improvements. For now the new addition is the ability for you all to follow on Twitter. Yeah! Hit the follow button on the side bar and stay caught up.
Happy Reading, Napping, Cleaning…whatever it is you’re up to on this Fab Friday
Somehow I just realized that this post from last week never updated to the blog. So here is last weeks lost post.
Yesterday, my little corner of the world had its first Crack Rack open. For those unfamiliar, this is the fond nickname loyal shoppers have bestowed upon The Nordstrom Rack store.
I can say that I attended the grand opening day. I can’t say I was crazy enough to stand in an over hour long line (at one of three registers) to purchase anything. There was a stupid amount of people there and I am not the most patient shopper – especially clothes.
To all the moms and nannies I ask a public service: Please, please stop carting baby strollers into packed stores! This includes any opening day events or Black Friday shopping. OMG I was bumped and run into so many times I felt like I needed to be wearing combat gear!
I understand people with children have to shop and drag the kids, but good lord. Timing people!! Who would even want to slug kids in that mayhem? Needless to say all the kiddos were THRILLED to be looking at women’s clothing! Not so much.
My weekend plans are reading and finding something to do to enjoy the warm weather. I think a stroller ride is on tabs for this afternoon for Simon.
The hubs is planning a date night. We are going to dinner tomorrow and he’s picking the place. I always have to pick so I’m excited to go wherever he chooses.
That’s all for me – hopefully I’ll be back from the weekend with book reports! The pile continues to grow!
